However, one aspect is often overlooked: regulatory compliance.<\/p>\n<p>A few days ago, we launched a LinkedIn survey with the question:<\/p>\n<h2>&#8211; What do you consider most relevant in the application of traceability and sensor technology on an automated production line? &#8211;<\/h2>\n<p>The results were revealing:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Real-time quality control: 42%<br \/>\n\u2022 Predictive fault diagnosis: 26%<br \/>\n\u2022 Process optimization: 32%<br \/>\n\u2022 Regulatory compliance: 0%<\/p>\n<p>The most striking statistic is the last one: not a single vote for regulatory compliance. It&#8217;s taken for granted. And yet, it&#8217;s the foundation that legitimizes and protects the entire traceability system, especially in sectors such as food (IFS, BRC, FDA), pharmaceuticals (GMP, 21 CFR Part 11), aerospace (EN 9100), and automotive (IATF 16949).<\/p>\n<p>Without proper regulatory structuring from the outset, a production line may be technologically advanced but legally unviable. And that&#8217;s a silent risk.<\/p>\n<p>Traceability is incomplete if it&#8217;s not compliant.<\/p>\n<p>When designing a sensor or data capture solution for the plant floor, we must ask ourselves:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Is the data stored with verifiable digital integrity and traceability?<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Are the audit or electronic signature requirements met? \u2022 Is it possible to retrieve the information in a structured way in case of an inspection?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 543px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gurpea.com\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-images\/dsc_0049.jpg\" alt=\"Marcado l\u00e1ser automatizaci\u00f3n Sector el\u00e9ctrico\" width=\"543\" height=\"362\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"cf8b7f8e-b29d-4f94-8d48-368aceba1fd5\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Laser marking in automated installation | Electrical Sector.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A poorly designed traceability system can fail precisely when it&#8217;s needed most: during a quality crisis, a complaint, or an external audit. At that point, it&#8217;s no longer just about efficiency, but about reputation and business viability.<\/p>\n<p>Regulatory compliance is fundamental because it ensures the traceability system supports applicable legal and industry requirements. An automation design that doesn&#8217;t consider these frameworks can result in penalties, product recalls, or loss of certifications.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, it helps standardize processes, facilitate audits, and protect both the manufacturer and the end consumer.
