We have joined a new collaborative R&D project. This time it is a project funded by CDTI and supported by the Ministry of Science and Innovation within the 2022 Science and Innovation Missions Program.
The project is led by Leading Metal Mechanic Solutions, and Gurpea (engineering division) is also participating, along with AVS Added Value Industrial Engineering, Egile Mechanics, Innomaq 21, and Rovalma. CIEMAT, CEIT, TECNALIA, and TEKNIKER are also collaborating as Technology Centers.
El asunto de este proyecto, llamado #ROAD2DEMO, es la fabricación avanzada para el desarrollo de tecnologías críticas para la construcción de DEMO y el avance de roadmap de fusión, basadas en retos identificados durante el diseño y construcción de ITER. (experimento científico liderado por la Unión Europea)
The project falls within the overall objective of strengthening technological capabilities to achieve secure and sustainable energy independence, using in this case the energy source from nuclear fusion.

Progress in the manufacturing of the ITER experimental nuclear reactor
GURPEA’s objectives will be:
- Research and validate advanced automation technologies for implementation in the production processes of beryllium panels (FWP)
- Ensuring the safety and ergonomics of the production process for production personnel.
- Design the product traceability and quality assurance system “0 defects”.
To achieve these goals, we will rely on emerging technologies typical of Industry 4.0, such as machine vision, deep learning, industrial robotics, and collaborative robotics.
This is a unique opportunity to demonstrate our expertise in process automation while working towards a more sustainable world and promoting clean energy.
