Wheel supply: combustion and electric

×

1 / Need identified

Installation developed for the automation of wheel supply to the assembly line. Containers with six four-wheel rollers are placed on a discharge system that feeds the entire line.

2 / Solution

Wheel supply system with model traceability and security strategies. The entire accumulation system is designed as a buffer that stores wheels to improve logistics and address potential issues.

ROBOTIC WAITER CLAWS
Complete redesign of these robots that will no longer pick up the wheel or perform artificial vision functions. They will only insert the screws into the rim. The waiter’s new vision will detect if the screws are the correct version (electric or combustion).

ROBOT CLAWS SCREWDRIVERS
Redesigned because the maximum wheel size of the electric model is larger (15 mm radial). To be able to screw into both working diameters, the claw can be adjusted by means of a pneumatic cylinder.

WHEEL CENTERING STATIONS
Redesign of the centering stations, taking into account:
The valve on steel wheels (locking screw in the hole before or after the valve).
Fixed position of the holes so that the robot waiter always inserts the screws into the rim in the same position.

SCREW SUPPLY
Due to the new electric models, it is necessary to add two new hoppers for standard screws (combustion and electric). The four existing hoppers will be used for the various safety screws, leaving one of them as a backup to speed up the process.

Advantages

Improved ergonomics are achieved by supplying the installation via containers and electric trolleys. Furthermore, accidents involving the direct handling of wheeled rollers are avoided.

Quality Improvement: By incorporating pressure control, tightening torque is ensured, VIN traceability is verified, and rework caused by leak test failures is eliminated.

Reduced incidents: the backup systems incorporated in both the duplication of stations, (wheel destacker) motorization and sensors reduce the risk of stoppages in the production line.
