Adaptation to electric models: supply and placement of wheels

Descarga Dossier Técnico
1 / Need identified
Upgrading the facility for the supply and placement of wheels on the new electric models, along with the current combustion models, on the same production line.
2 / Solution
ROBOT CLAWS WAITERS
Complete redesign of these robots that will no longer pick up the wheel or perform artificial vision functions.
They will only insert the screws into the rim.
The waiter’s new vision will detect if the screws are the correct version (electric or combustion).
ROBOT CLAWS SCREWDRIVERS
Redesign due to the maximum wheel size of the electric model being larger (15 mm radial).
To be able to screw into both working diameters, the claw can be adjusted by means of a pneumatic cylinder.
WHEEL CENTERING TOOLS
Redesign of the centering stations, taking into account:
The valve on the steel wheels (safety screw in the front or rear hole of the valve).
Fixed position of the holes so that the robot waiter will always insert the screws into the rim in the same position.
SUPPLY OF SCREWS
Due to the new electric models, it is necessary to add two new hoppers for standard screws (VW combustion and VW-SK electric).
The four existing hoppers will be used for the various safety screws, leaving one of them as a backup to speed up the process.
In addition to other improvements such as reducing the risk of collision between the robot waiter and the screwdriver:
The transport line has been redesigned to send the wheels to the centering track, instead of the robot waiters.
Furthermore, the size of the waiter’s claw is smaller than that of the screw-wielding robot, avoiding collisions and improving the assembly cycle time.

Advantages
Productivity Improvement: The buffer accumulation system increases the line’s autonomy time by 20 minutes, which benefits the operator who has more time to perform other logistical processes.
Improved ergonomics are achieved by supplying the installation via containers and electric trolleys. Furthermore, accidents involving the direct handling of wheeled rollers are avoided.
Reduced incidents: the backup systems incorporated in both the duplication of stations, (wheel destacker) motorization and sensors reduce the risk of stoppages in the production line.
