Gurpea has been nominated for the SMP Supplier Summit awards as best engineering company in Spain and Portugal, for the large-scale industrialization projects it has developed over these two years at the SMP Automotive plants in Catalonia and Navarra, which have represented a turnover of more than 6 million euros.
Gurpea attended the event as one of the best suppliers nominated for the SMP Supplier Summit, which took place at the Corinthia Hotel in Budapest last Thursday, bringing together more than 150 suppliers from around the world.
The event, organized by SMP Automotive, a company of the Motherson Group, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of components for the automotive industry, offered a dynamic program of talks and networking specialized in the sector, which ended with a spectacular gala dinner, thus providing a platform for networking, collaboration and exchange of innovative ideas among industry experts.
This recognition represents a great expansion opportunity for Gurpea through the extrapolation of the acquired know-how and technology, developed jointly with SMP Automotive for these projects, in other international plants of the client, mainly in Europe, Mexico and the USA.
The projects developed by Gurpea for SMP
In these last two years, Gurpea has worked hand in hand with SMP Automotive in the industrialization of the customized bumper configuration process for leading automobile brands in the market, which have represented a turnover of more than 6 million euros for the Navarrese engineering company.

The two projects developed for this purpose, for the plants in Castellbisbal (Catalonia) and Pamplona (Navarra), consisted of the definition, design and manufacture of two large-scale production lines for the assembly of various bumper models, which include stamping, crimping and bonding operations, including latest generation technologies such as artificial vision, self-supporting logistics, ultrasonic welding, traceability software and robotics.
For its part, SMP Automotive insisted throughout the event that “the success of any project comes when its suppliers stop being so, and become ‘partners’, supporting with knowledge and proximity throughout the process.” In addition, it emphasized the importance of including sustainability as a growth strategy.
